Temptation

The Sneaky Tactic of the Devil: Temptation

Ephesians 4:27 (NCV), “Do not give the devil a way to defeat you.”

1 John 2:1, “My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone doessin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.”

God Keeps Track of Temptation

Proverbs 15:3, (NKJV), “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endures temptation, for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

Malachi 3:16, “All those who truly respected the Lord and honored his name started discussing these things, and when God saw what was happening, he had their names written as a reminder in his book.”
Revelation 20:12, “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV), “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Revelation 3:5 (NKJV), “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”

Revelation 21:27 (NKJV), “There shall by no means enter [into heaven] anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”

Revelation 20:15 (NKJV), “Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.”

You are to Blame for Giving in to Temptation

James 1:13-14, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.”

James 1:14, “Each person is tempted when they are drawn away by their own evil desire and enticed.”

Exodus 20:3-4 (NKJV), “You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image – any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that’s in the earth beneath, or that’s in the water under the earth.”

Hebrews 12:1-2 (CEV), “Such a large crowd of witnesses is all around us! So we must get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won’t let go. And we must be determined to run the race that is ahead of us. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. He endured the shame of being nailed to a cross, because he knew that later on he would be glad he did. Now he is seated at the right side of God’s throne!”

1 Corinthians 7:5 (NKJV), “Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”

Luke 4:13 (NKJV), “Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.”

Temptation Can Lead You to Sin

James 1:15 (NKJV), “When desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.”

Matthew 5:28 (NKJV), “But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

James 1:14-15 (NKJV), “Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.

You Can Overcome Temptation

James 1:12, “Blessed is the man who endures temptation.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV), “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV), “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV), “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation, will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”

Hebrews 2:18 (NKJV), “For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”

Matthew 6:13, “Do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

1. God keeps track of our Responses to temptation
2. We’re responsible for temptation whenever we have desires Other Than what the Lord desires
3. Our weakness and tendency toward temptation doesn’t make us evil - it becomes evil only when we Act on it
4. We can overcome temptation by calling on Jesus for help through our prayers both Before and During temptation.
