Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, Seek and Knock

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! Mathew 7:7-11

Progression in Prayer:

  • Ask
  • Seek - God’s Will

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  And the Father, who knows all hearts, knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.” Romans 8:26-27

  • Knock - Seeking Entrance, or Desiring Fellowship

5 Principles about Prayer

1. God does not answer Everyone’s Prayers

“Christ died and was raised to life, and now he is at God's right side, speaking to him for us.”  Romans 8:34

2. We are Expected to ask for the things that God has Promised

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Philippians 4:6 NLT

“…you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.” James 4:2

3. God Hears and Answers Every Prayer of His Children

“For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

4. Sometimes God gives us what we Need, Not what we Ask For

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

5. No Prayer is ever Wasted

“Jesus, I accept You as my Savior

I believe God raised You from the dead

I confess You as my Lord.

In the name of Jesus.”
